The Krups KM7000 meets all my requirements except for price and brewing directly into a thermal carafe. It incorporates a grinder with the coffee maker, saving much-coveted counter space. It's easy to clean. It uses less electricity (if you pour immediately into a carafe after brewing) than my old coffee maker. This is essential, as I live off-grid. And it makes excellent coffee, given good beans.
Bonus - it's a burr grinder. I didn't expect this in an all-in-one unit. The coffee is quite hot, a real improvement from my old coffee maker-grinder. And it amuses me. There is a swing-aside cover that allows the ground beans to fall into the filter and, when the grinding stops, SNAPS back into place for the rest of the brew cycle.
My only complaint is the price. Anything approaching $100 for a coffee maker is difficult to reconcile, and it took several months of consideration -and the failure of my old coffee machine, plus a couple months more of pouring coffee through a stovetop model - before I parted with my hard-earned cash. The price and the unknown quantity of durability keep this machine from getting a fifth star.
