I first tested the product with boiling water, then cold to determine how accurate. No problem there, accurate to the degree and when used was very easy to read and program.

This is the third time I've purchased this product, because it is so useful if you smoke food regularly. I have wood, charcoal, gas and electric smokers and now that I have calibrated the electric smoker using this product, I don't need it as much, but when I use any of the others, I can regulate the temperature much better and know how cooked the food is without opening the lid. The latter is important if I'm on a tight schedule and want to add a glaze.

The problem is that I have had to purchase three of them because they stop working after a year or two.

I bought this as an outdoor thermometer which I placed on a post a few yards from my kitchen window. Unfortunately, the red line is so thin and the numbers so small that it is only useful when viewed quite close up. On the plus side, it was very inexpensive and I will find another use for it.

The Chillow really helps keep you cool at night.
The only negative is that it slips around on top of another pillow - but putting it in a snugly fitting pillowcase with another pillow helps keep it in place.

I bought this for my baby's nursery to keep abreast of the humidity level in her room so I know when I need to turn on the humidifier. It works great- it also tells the inside and outdoor temps which are useful, and has a clock.

The only reason I gave it 4 stars is b/c the sensor to measure the outside temp lost it's stick quickly, so it won't stick to the window anymore like it is supposed to- now i just shove it in this little catch on the window screen and it works fine. Th cord also doesn't allow you to shut the window completely, so if you want to lock it, you're out of luck (that is, if you want to measure the outside temp- you don't need to use this feature if you only want to measure the inside temp and humidity).

If you own a cheap grill as I do, knowing the temperature while cooking is always a mystery. This thermometer takes the guesswork out of grilling, allowing me to slow roast dry-rub chicken, pork and fish, and ribs. Although I didn't think it would work as well for steaks and burgers, it did show me that my grill temperature can reach 600+ degrees on high burner settings. So by turning the burners down a little, I have had less tendency to overcook. It does accumulate spatter during cooking as others have noted. By pushing it to the corner of the grill, I have minimized this. When it did need cleaning, I used a dab of olive oil on a dishcloth and it came off easily (just be sure to wipe any oil residue off before putting it back on the grill). It's a great bargain for what it does. The only way it could be better is if it could be read outside the grill with the lid down.

Tried it today July 2008 and after reading the comments (which I didn't when I purchased it) I agree with most of the posters. The price was good, looked nice, can extend the snout .5 to 2.75", runs on butane (like most cig lighters). This is great for reaching into a fireplace, BBQ or down into a glass to light a candle, kinda a replacement for the LONG Fireplace matches. However, there is NO FUEL in the lighter so you gotta purchase a can of butane with an adapter made for lighters (not the Butane for camp stoves). This web page needs to say "this lighter will require filling with Butane and thumb muscles before you can use it". The slide switch is way to hard to slide. I can do it but a smaller person or elderly will have trouble. Now that I have filled it I will say it lights every time. Cons: Takes a strong thumb to operate and arrives empty. Next time I'll read the comments before purchasing anything.

The timer and/or thermostat allow me to other chores while the grill is doing its thing. The "belt clip" leaves a little to be desired. I would not use it.
