Well, it seemed like a good idea. I've used Melitta's old Mill and Brew for years (loved it)and was forced to replace it after the latch broke. Trying to find one just like it, I opted for the new Mill and Brew. I was rather indifferent to the weather station feature but figured if it made as good a cup of coffee as the old one I'd be happy. Once you plug in the coffee maker it (in theory) is supposed to find a signal and the clock will automatically set. Unfortunately I never was able to pick up a signal. I called the customer service number for Fox-International and they told me to place it "closer to Colorado" on my counter. (The atomic clock is located in Boulder). This didn't help at all since I already live in Colorado !!! Fox also told me there was no way to manually set the clock and that I should return it. Thinking that was ridiculous, who would make a coffee maker with a timer feature with no way to set the clock, I e-mailed Melitta. True, if it doesn't pick up a signal, there is no way to manually set the clock which makes the timer (which I use every day) completely useless.
To Melitta's credit, they did offer to replace it with the old model. They said they still had a couple of the old ones on hand. Since I simply wanted to replace my old one all along I'm now happy. The new model may work just fine if you live in Boulder but if you're in a rural area, it's pretty useless. I could have lived with this thing if I could have set the clock. I hope these folks get their ducks in a row because their engineers got a little too cute and have (for folks in rural areas) destroyed a very good product.
