I love, LOVE, LLLOOOOVVVEEEE this product. I use this every single day... really! I make fruit roll ups with little trouble (spray the insert with a little vegetable oil before using), dry fruit and even freshed up cereals and spices that get a little stale from all the dampness this fall. Next we are going to try to make some jerky... the guys can't wait! I can't wait to get another one to use for some of my crafting too!

I have used this item several times for making fruit roll ups and other things for my sons backpacking trips and it is great to have around. I would have liked to have seen the ceter hole measurment on the description because I had to rely on a review to tell me it was 3 inches, which was what I needed.

The dehydrator arrived quickly, operates easily, and does a great job with tomatoes, peppers and herbs. I haven't tried the dehydrator with jerky, as this is not the reason I bought it. The use of the mesh screens helps a great deal and I would recommend purchasing additional ones, if you plan to generally use it for drying herbs.

These clean-a-screens work as expected. The small mesh grid keep things (like peas) from falling through the dehydrator. The screens are flexible so they are great for putting under sticky fruits so you can just pop stuff off.

If you are using a juicy/sticky fruit, your main trays will still get sticky and need washed. The screens only make it easier to empty the dehydrator.

I bought this little dehydrator about a year ago because I wanted to try making beef jerky.

On the plus side, the dehydrator does a really great job. I have only made beef jerky, but it is outstanding. The trays are big enough to handle quite a bit of beef. I bought extra trays and I can fit 4-5 lbs of meat in a batch.

The only minus is that it's a little noisy (about like a microwave or a little louder). The smell of the food sort of permeates the house when in use, and it takes 5-6 hrs to make the jerky. So, I tried putting it our guest bathroom with the vent on, but it overheats and stops working in enclosed spaces.

Overall it is an awesome unit. It makes me wonder what is so great about these $100+ units I see. I recommend this for the casual dehydrator.

I got this from Santa last Xmas. What a nice appliance. I have used a couple of other dehydrators, and this one is the best one. Tho it doesn't say so in the description, mine came w/2 roll-up trays, and 2 clean a screen liners.

I have used mine to dry garlic for garlic powder. I use a Kyocera Adjustable Mandolin Slicer to slice the cloves thinly for drying. I have also dried hot peppers. I can't wait t try other stuff!

Pros:
-Top-mounted power unit keeps it free of goop, seeds etc.
-Adjustable temperature.
-Fan circulated heat for even drying without rotating trays.
-Fairly quiet, tho you'll know it's running.
-Easy cleanup. This is where the top-mount power unit design shines. The bottom where all the goop drips goes right into the sink with the trays.
-Clear instructions.

Cons:
-Only one: No power switch. Plug in for on, unplug for off.

The instructions say top-rack dishwasher safe, but they are too big for my dishwasher. Not to worry, tho, because they clean up easily in soapy water. To dry, shake off the excess water, assemble the unit, and turn it on on high for a few minutes.

If you are looking for a dehydrator, this one should be on your short list!

I added this dehydrator to my approximately 12-year-old Nesco. The new one is digital and has a timer, visibly counting down the number of hours I've set. That's a very handy feature for me - taking the place of leaving myself a note for start and estimated finish times and then checking the time repeatedly so I'm sure to shut off the machine. I will continue to use the older model for low temperature herb drying.
The only problem I have with this, as with the older model, is where to store it. But as my jars of dried vegetables and fruit build up on the shelves - food I will use this winter and beyond and won't have to purchase later at higher prices - I figure that's a small inconvenience.

I recently purchased 4 sets of trays for our food dehydrator from Amazon. My husband has become the "jerky" king of our town and he has been complaining about having to wait so long before putting another batch in to dry. The new trays now bring our total tray count up to 12 which is the maximum. Now he can do all of the jerky at one time by just rotationg the trays every so often. It is a great product!
