My wife and I go to the local recreation center for exercise therapy; we load this slow cooker with our favorite cooking cereal and it is ready to eat when we return home from. Goodbye cold cereal. Hear the money saved jingle in my pocket! The size is perfect for our circumstances.

I purchased a Rival Crockpot a few years ago and was never happy with it - the food always burnt and dried up, hence my search for a new one.
So far I have made a Chicken Indian Curry and Beef Stew - both cooked for many hours on low and turned out just how they should - not dry or burnt and absolutely delicious.
My only minor concern is that the lid does not seem to fit perfect and if you have to walk by the slow cooker when it's not on properly, it rattles. No steam escapes though.

Hamilton Beach 33956 Stay-or-Go 5-Quart Slow Cooker, White kitchen appliance reviews

This is a great slow cooker. I love the fact that it is programmable, and especially the fact that it has a probe for cooking meat.
I have used this to cook a whole chicken and a pork roast with the probe.
Wonderfully moist meat. Of course, it won't brown the chicken, but since I take the skin off anyway, it does not matter. I have also cooked swiss steak. Yum.
Again, 5 stars.

I purchased this for my granddaughter who is a sophomore at college. She is enjoying it immensely, experimenting with recipes and is the envy of her dormitory. She has "dinner parties" for her friends. The pot works well, cooks away while she sleeps or is in class. It is the Rival Crockpot.

Rival SCVI600B-SS Crock-Pot 6-Quart Premium VersaWare Slow Cooker kitchen appliance reviews

kitchen appliance reviews Rival SCVI600B-SS Crock-Pot 6-Quart Premium VersaWare Slow Cooker
After purchasing a cheaper crock pot for my son away at college, then reading the poor reviews, I did quite a bit of research and bought him this one. He brought it home for summer vacation and fortunately for me, left it here for the time being when he returned to school. We have used it several times, for traditional crock pot cooking and for browning meats on the stove first then the slow cooking. It works great for all the uses it is advertised for. It's really nice to be able to brown a roast as it should be, before cooking it slowly for hours. The timer is very handy also. You don't have to worry that your dinner is overcooking if you don't get home in time. The versatility of use and nice design makes this a great crock pot to own and use. I am really glad I picked this one and would not trade it for any other crock pot.

Cuisinart CSC-400 4-Quart Slow Cooker, Brushed Stainless Steel and Black kitchen appliance reviews

kitchen appliance reviews Cuisinart CSC-400 4-Quart Slow Cooker, Brushed Stainless Steel and Black
This is a review of this Cuisinart slow cooker as a cooking appliance, not a comparative rating comparing slow cookers.

I also own an automatic-timed pressure cooker, purchased on Amazon. There were so few recipes for automatic pressure cookers, and so many recipes for crock pots, that I thought I needed this as well.

Here's the result:

10/4/08--chicken in tomatoe sauce

Taste--pressure cooker wins, hands down. Pressure cookers lock in the aroma, creating better tasting food
Time Savings--pressure cooker again wins, hands down--much faster, and can brown right in the pressure cooker; whereas slow cooker requires browning in another pan. Slow cooker's cooking sometimes requires cooking outside cooker because slow cook by itself doesn't kill enough bacteria.
Convenience--pressure cooker again wins. Don't have to wait 5+ hours to eat. My automatic pressure cooker also has timer settings better than this crock pot.
Variety of foods--slow cooker appears to be able to cook a wider variety of foods. There are far more numbers of cookbooks.
Price--automatic pressure cooker costs significantly more, but well worth it.

This particular model has only an 8 hour clock, and I noticed many slow cooker recipes require a 10 hour, sometimes 12 hour cooking time.

For your money, get an automatic pressure cooker first. The primary disadvantage of an automatic pressure cooker is lack of recipes. This is different from a standard pressure cooker, which requires tending.

I'll post more cooking review as I try the slow cooker more.

10/6/08 fruit cobbler--crock pot did probably better than pressure cooker could have done (never tried w pressure cooker). Pressure cooker would have required more liguids. Regular oven could have made fruit cake, and don't think crock pot can.

10/10/08 chili w beef and chicken and kidney beans

Not bad, but pressure cooker would taste better.
Convenience--pressure cooker wins, because Cuisinart required many ingridents to be precooked in a seperate pan.

Great addition to the kitchen , I have a larger one as well. Cleans up easily. Miss the 4/6hr timer that the larger model has, but still great product.

Cuisinart PSC-400 4 Quart Programmable Slow Cooker, Brushed Stainless Steel kitchen appliance reviews

kitchen appliance reviews Cuisinart PSC-400 4 Quart Programmable Slow Cooker, Brushed Stainless Steel
This was my first slow cooker. I wanted something which is of medium size good enough to cook food for two+ numbers of people, good looking matching to the rest of the stuffs in my kitchen and I think this is one of right cookers for such a requirement.

I had a bad experience to start with as the cooker came with one of its rubber legs detached with a loose screw moving inside the cooker body. I was very excited about its arrival but the crippled cooker hit my mood in a sad swing. I did not have the patience to return it and wait for another week. So, I opened up the cooker after a busy work day, fought with it for couple of hours and somehow managed to fix it. I tell you, when working on it, I was regretting why at all I opened it up. Whatsoever, when I could get it fixed, that gave me some short of accomplishment and I was hungry enough already not be able to wait till the slow cooker finishes its cooking :)

Now comes the cooking, I never cooked a slow recipe but I bought the slow cooker after tasting the 12 hours slow cook lamb in one Greek restaurant in Banff, Canada during our last out of the country vacation. So, I was all excited to cook the Greek style slow cooked lamb. Got the recipe from internet and the rest was very simple. After 10 hours of cooking ( 3 hour HIGH and the rest on LOW ), what a juicy and beautiful dish came out from the cooker was sheer joy to watch ( a thing of beauty is a joy forever, you know! ) and it spread extreme impatience to eat that good stuff. I also cooked some sausage based soups which came out real delicious. From my little experience, I can tell that the recommended spices and herbs for a specific slow cook dish are very important as those create the great flavors under slow cooking.

In summary, though initially I was disappointed, I was happy eventually and I could make my wife and my friends happier with the bliss of the product.

kitchen appliance reviews Rival 64451LD-C 6.5 Quart Slow Cooker with Bonus Little Dipper Slow Cooker
I received the Rival as a gift. This slow cooker is anything but slow. On the low setting, a 3 lb pot roast was over done in less than 2 hours. Instead of slow cooking you are slow boiling. I ruined a few meals with this crock pot and now I am looking to buy a new one.
